The city of Mauldin will host its annual barbecue festival, SOOIE, Sept. 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mauldin Cultural Center’s outdoor amphitheater at 101 E. Butler Road.
The festival will feature more than 20 contestants from across the Southeast, who will compete in a barbecue cook-off judged by the South Carolina Barbeque Association.
The event schedule includes:
- Anything Butt competition – participants will serve items including sliders, grilled chicken and smoked cobbler to a guest panel of judges
- Live music by The Vinyl Junkies
- The BBQ Cook-off competition — judged by a panel certified SCBA BBQ tasters
- Pig calling contest
In addition to being judged by experts, attendees may also cast their vote for the best BBQ and the winner of the Gabe Hunter People’s Choice Award.
The festival will also offer activities such as face painting, bounce houses and a petting zoo.
Admission to the event is free, but food and drink tickets, as well as tasting passes, will be available for purchase.
