The Lake Conestee Nature Preserve wants you to know that, effective immediately, your dog is once again welcome on the preserve’s network of trails.
Last June, the preserve closed all natural surface trails to dogs in the hope of providing a safe space for wildlife to thrive, but, the downside has outweighed the upside.
“In short, the rule has disproportionately affected considerate, rule-abiding patrons with dogs,” the preserve announced via Facebook.
So instead of a full ban on dogs, the preserve is limiting access to a couple of its busiest wildlife observation platforms. Those platforms will be clearly marked.
“This compromise will allow space for those seeking to quietly observe nature, while also allowing dog owners to fully navigate our interconnected trail system,” the announcement said.
