The Travelers Rest Police Department recently earned the South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation administered by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
The agency received the accreditation on Aug. 28 at the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association in Columbia. Travelers Rest is now the smallest municipal police department in the state to earn this achievement.
“Earning state accreditation is an outstanding accomplishment for our police department,” said Travelers Rest Mayor Brandy Amidon. “To achieve this distinction as the smallest municipal police department in South Carolina to do so makes us especially proud.”
The police department was required to demonstrate compliance with professional standards and best practices established by SCLEA. The state accrediting body completed an extensive review of the agency’s policies, procedures, operations, training, accountability measures and other standards.
“This achievement belongs to our entire department,” Police Chief Benjamin Ford said. “Accreditation requires a great deal of work behind the scenes, but more importantly, it confirms that the policies and practices we follow every day are aligned with recognized professional standards.”
