Greenville County Schools students outperformed the state on several assessments during the 2025-26 school year.
Assessment data from the South Carolina Department of Education show that elementary and middle school students surpassed the state on the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) for English language arts, math and science. These assessments are administered in third through eighth grade.
“Continued gains in student achievement across English language arts, mathematics and science are a tremendous source of pride, particularly because they reflect eight years of higher achievement and steady progress,” said GCS Superintendent Burke Royster.
High school students in Greenville County also exceeded the state on the end-of-course exams for English 2, biology 1 and US history. According to the school district, participation in the Algebra 1 end-of-course exam decreased due to a new course sequence established by the 2025 South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Mathematics standards.
Approximately 74% of the 11th- and 12th-grade students who took the South Carolina Career Ready Assessment earned a credential. This percentage surpassed the state rate of 69%. The assessment, provided by Worldwide Interactive Network, measures essential workforce skills such as math, data, reading and soft skills.
According to GCS, the school district has steadily grown in all subject areas across all levels over the past three years. Royster explained these results reflect the collective work of the district’s teachers, leaders, staff, students and families with support from the GCS Board of Trustees.
“We celebrate this progress while continuing to use the data to strengthen instruction, support our educators, and ensure students have the opportunity to achieve at the highest levels,” Royster said.
