North Carolina-based coffee shop Canal Coffee Co. has finally opened in Greenville. It began a soft opening July 16 and celebrated its grand opening July 25 at 113 Poinsett Hwy. at the corner of Poinsett Highway and Rutherford Road near locally-owned coffee shop Mountain Goat.
The drive-thru coffee shop has had a journey entering the city, having first set its sights on a space at 299 S. Pleasantburg Drive. The site plan for the original proposed location was presented at a city of Greenville project preview meeting Sept. 24, 2024.
The project then went before the Board of Zoning Appeals in November 2024 where it was denied.
The quick service coffee shack made the announcement of its belated arrival June 17. It serves coffee, house-made energy drinks and breakfast all day. It is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

We love when art and food can meet in the middle. The South Carolina New Play Festival is currently underway and runs until Aug. 9.
If you haven’t seen it yet, the world premier of “The House I Live In: Josh White’s America” is being performing live in a spiegeltent near New Realm Brewing. The brewery/distillery is providing food, wine and themed cocktails for the event.
The cocktails are fun spins on classic libations like the Old Fashioned. One of them – the The Josh White Russian – is a tribute to the singer-songwriter’s favorite cocktail, a white Russian. Other options include the Woody Guthrie Gimlet, Jazz Old Fashioned and Libby Holman Highball.
“The House I Live in” tells the story of singer-songwriter, Civil Rights activist and Greenville native Josh White. The play was written by Columbia-based playwright Donnetta Lavinia Grays.

Bite-sized bit:
- Scout’s Doughnuts, the Greenville-based shop named as an homage to an American literary classic, is adding another location. The new spot has not yet been divulged aside from it being in Simpsonville. The announcement was first made on social media June 25. Scout’s first opened in 2023 serving croissant-style, flaky doughnuts. Currently, there are two locations – the flagship at 1700 E. North St., and a downtown Greenville window near the intersection of Main and Washington streets.
