Assisted Stretching for Flexibility and Overall Health
Feeling better — everyone likes the concept of improving health and quality of life, but many don’t know where to start. According to General Manager Luke McClellan of Greenville’s StretchLab, a great place to begin is with an assisted stretching routine designed to get you moving better.
At StretchLab, professional, certified flexologists use techniques and methods of stretching that have been scientifically proven to improve flexibility and range of motion. Stretching programs are created and customized for each individual with the goal of preventing muscle soreness and joint pain. McClellan says mobility and flexibility lost over time due to inactivity or injury can actually be regained and notes people of all ages and activity levels have something to gain from stretching.
A lack of flexibility can cause people to be more susceptible to injury — even those who are active and consider themselves to be fit.
“Flexibility provides the freedom to choose your lifestyle,” McClellan says. “You can pull or strain a muscle just bending a certain way or doing simple movements like getting in or out of the car. The goal is to become less injury prone and more resistant to those everyday aches and pains.”
McClellan emphasizes the key role consistency plays in maximizing the benefits of an assisted stretching routine. He recommends at least one to two sessions per week, and while StretchLab sessions can be supplemented by at-home exercises, he maintains there’s no substitute for one-on-one, hands-on, assisted stretching.
