A day after Clemson University announced masks are required in virtually every space for the next three weeks, Greenville Technical College announced Aug. 19 that masks must be worn indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
In the announcement, Greenville Tech officials said the policy applies to all indoor spaces on campuses and centers unless work is being done in a private office.
Though masks are not required outside, they are encouraged when in groups.
Greenville Tech administration will continue to evaluate the situation throughout the semester to determine when the mandate can safely end. The college also encourages getting the COVID-19 vaccine and is hosting several vaccine events beginning Aug. 25:
- Aug. 25, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Benson Campus
- Aug. 26, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Barton Campus Welcome Back Block Party
- Aug. 30, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Northwest Campus
- Aug. 31, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Brashier Campus
Clemson University’s requirement extends for three weeks starting Aug. 18, the university announced in an email.
University officials said they selected the three-week period — which ends days before the school’s football home-opener against South Carolina State on Aug. 11 — on the advice of its public health team’s modeling of COVID-19 spread.
“Masks were shown in our models to a have significant impact on curbing the spread of the virus and correspondingly enhances our ability to stay in person,” the announcement said.
According to the university’s COVID-19 data dashboard, 156 of 16,799 (0.9%) COVID-19 tests came back positive between Aug. 8 and Aug. 14,
