So much more than you expected!
“Some people see aging as a period at the end of a sentence. We think of it as an exclamation mark,” says Andrea Smith, executive director of Senior Action, a non-profit organization devoted to keeping adults over 55 active, healthy and engaged.
Senior Action offers a variety of wellness programs, social and civic activities, art and music programs, and much more. Through eight locations across Greenville County, seniors connect with each other, enjoy lunch each day and take in a class or two — ranging from fitness, yoga and line dancing, to art, music, book clubs and educational classes. Senior Action also provides services to assist seniors with critical needs such as transportation to centers and doctors appointments, lawn care services and affordable housing.
In 2020, Senior Action will open a new location on E. North Street that doubles the size of its current headquarters. The new space will include a 400-seat conference center, expanded space for wellness programs and a first-of-its-kind Fine Arts Center for seniors. “We serve 5,000 seniors each year, but we are barely scratching the surface. We are thrilled to reach more seniors in new and exciting ways,” Smith says.
This is a great year to get involved with Senior Action. Whether you’re a current member who wants to get more involved, a former member interested in coming back, or someone who’s never been to Senior Action before, come join the fun and find your exclamation mark!
