Her love of wine and food and travel translates into every bite of chocolate
For years, Elizabeth Logan McDaniel was a wine distributor in the Upstate. Today, she’s providing another kind of indulgence to the people of Greenville. Owner and founder of LaRue Fine Chocolate, Elizabeth has finally opened her first chocolate shop after several years of selling chocolates at the TD Market and online. Located at Poe West, the new shop will feature seating for 40 people, cakes and pies from various chefs, ice cream, cheese boards, small meals, coffee, beer, wine and cocktails. And, of course, chocolate.
Several years ago, Elizabeth began making chocolates with her niece as a fun project. She quickly realized that she had natural skill as a chocolatier and began giving out samples to her customers at Christmas time. She tinkered with the idea of leaving her corporate job and starting her own business after her husband bought her some books and chocolate classes. Eventually, she went to Vancouver and took a Master’s chocolate course, which put her on the path to become a professional chocolatier.
Before long, Elizabeth was selling her chocolate at the TD Market to great acclaim. She believes her past as a certified wine specialist helps her create chocolate creations that are one-of-a-kind. “I believe that my experience in the wine business and spending so much time thinking about flavor profiles and pairings helps me blend sweets as well,” says Elizabeth. “My truffles unfold the way that a fine wine does.”
