Mission Statement
The Greenlaw Foundation provides veterans programs that focus on veteran suicide prevention, veteran homelessness and catastrophically wounded veterans. The foundation supports midlevel to smaller programs nationally that work directly with former members of the U.S. armed services.
The suicide rate among veterans is 22 per day, though it is believed the number is higher than that, with more than 9,000 former service members losing their lives to suicide each year. The rate of active-duty suicides has also increased over the last five years.
Some 50 million veterans, caregivers and family members need help, especially with all veteran organizations seeing a significant slowdown in funding since the pandemic. Those who experience the mental and physical toll of combat, as well as those who are affected by military service, deserve resources and assistance.
Impact
The foundation disburses 100% of donations to veterans programs nationwide. The foundation also donates to individual veterans who have been catastrophically wounded, such as paying their rent to avoid homelessness and providing warm winter clothes to those in need.
The national programs the foundation supports include:
- Blue Star Families: Founded in 2009 by military spouses, the organization connects veterans and their families.
- American Veterans Center: The center offers oral-history preservation, educational programs and civic events
- Mission 22: The organization provides treatment programs for veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and the like and veterans memorials, among other services.
