Simpsonville city and Greenville County leaders gathered together with members of the community to break ground on the Simpsonville Municipal Complex on Feb. 23.
A project nearly two years in the making, plans for Simpsonville’s new complex on the 400 block of Curtis Street include:
- Demolishing existing fire department headquarters and police department buildings
- Combining city hall and the police department into a 30,000-square-foot two-story building
- Developing a 22,000-square-foot fire department headquarters
- Moving municipal and magistrate courts into a Summary Court building funded by Greenville County
- Moving the playground to a shadier area closer to the ballfields
- Shrinking the size of the dog park
- Moving disc golf to the back of the park

“Today is a historic day in our community,” said Simpsonville Mayor Paul Shewmaker. “These new buildings will serve our community for decades if not centuries to come. They will not only provide essential services and resources for our community, but will also become a center of civic pride for us.”
Construction on the fire department, Summary Court building and combined City Hall and police department is expected to be done in 18 to 24 months, said Shewmaker.
The city closed its City Park to make way for construction on the project. A date for the reopening of the redeveloped park has not been announced.
