Members of the community are invited to Lee Road United Methodist Church’s “Turn the Light Own” ceremony March 21 in Taylors.
Kicking off at 7 p.m. at 1377 E. Lee Road, the hour and 15-minute-long event will culminate in the unveiling of an 8-foot-tall, solar-powered, poly resin lighthouse in front of the church. The newly installed fixture will also symbolize Lee Road UMC’s decision to remain as part of the United Methodist denomination and become a lighthouse congregation by welcoming all.
“The idea I had is to have something attractive (and) very visible on the front lawn to show the community that we are a lighthouse congregation that welcomes everyone into full inclusion in the life of our church,” said Rev. Rusty Godfrey, pastor of Lee Road United Methodist Church. “I want anyone who feels like they have been outcast by church, unwanted or unwelcomed, to know that we want to welcome them here, should they want to visit us.”
The dedication ceremony will also feature a 30-minute contemporary Christian concert by the church’s band, The Bridge Collective, as well as a 15-minute program including lighting congregational candles, a prayer and children reading scripture.
