The Greenville Police Department has received its ninth certificate of advanced accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
There are approximately 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the United States, and the Greenville Police Department is one of only 838 that is accredited by the organization. The department has been accredited by the organization since 1995, and is reassessed every four years. It must comply with more than 400 national law enforcement standards.
The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with standards in four basic areas:
- Policy and procedures.
- Administration.
- Operations.
- Support services.
“Being awarded the certificate of advanced accreditation from CALEA is an outstanding achievement and speaks to the great work that the men and women of the Greenville Police Department do on a day-to-day basis,” said Greenville Police Department Chief Howie Thompson.
