The Greenville County Council finance committee approved funding proposals for three fire departments, including two property tax increases, at the committee’s July 11 meeting.
With the committee’s approval, the funding proposals for the Boiling Springs, Clear Spring and Canebrake fire departments will go before the full council for consideration later this month.
The committee approved Boiling Springs’ request to keep its current millage rate, and in a separate vote also approved the department’s plans to issue $11.25 million in general obligation bonds to build a new headquarters station at the intersection of Garlington Road and Hartness Drive.
The committee also approved spending plans for:
- Clear Spring Fire and Rescue District — The department in the Simpsonville area requested an increase of 2.2 mills to maintain current service amid increasing operational costs. According to the department’s application, the increase would generate an additional $223,764 annually.
- Canebrake Fire Department — The department near Fountain Inn requested an increase of 5.7 mills to add personnel and replace aging equipment. According to the department’s application, the increase would generate an additional $109,565 annually.
