Greenville Technical College has joined a national network that aligns perfectly with its longstanding history of student success and workforce development. As part of the Unlocking Opportunity network, led by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program, the college is working alongside peer institutions to remove barriers, improve outcomes and ensure more students enter careers with long-term financial stability.
Strengthening pathways through national collaboration
By participating in the Unlocking Opportunity initiative, Greenville Tech is now part of a broader movement to redesign the way community colleges approach student success and economic advancement. This collaboration allows the college to adopt proven strategies and test new approaches to strengthen systems that support students.
Removing barriers to student success
A cornerstone of the program is removing barriers to graduation. These barriers include financial uncertainty, enrollment processes, limited access to advising and life responsibilities.
Greenville Tech is addressing these challenges through targeted outreach, simplified processes and expanded student support. From early financial aid packaging to guided enrollment steps and accessible advising, the goal is a clearer path for every student.
Expanding access to affordable education
Greenville Tech offers one of the most affordable pathways to higher education in the region. With more than 100 programs, the college has flexible scheduling options, including in-person and hybrid courses designed for working adults and recent high school graduates — and structured pathways allow seamless transfers to four-year institutions.
Through The Greenville Tech Foundation, students benefit from more than 200 scholarships, with over $1.1 million awarded in 2025, and a single application connects the students to multiple opportunities. Additional resources include Pell Grants, Lottery Tuition Assistance, work-study opportunities and the Career Pathways Scholarship.

Connecting education to economic mobility
Industries such as healthcare, advanced manufacturing, automotive and diesel technology, aircraft maintenance and skilled trades continue to grow. This means positive earning potential and real opportunities for economic mobility.
Offering hands-on experience using modern equipment in real-world scenarios, Greenville Tech is focused on outcomes. Students earn industry-recognized credentials and often participate in internships, clinicals or apprenticeships. Many are able to begin working before, or immediately after, graduation.
Driving impact for students and the community
The impacts extends beyond individual students. As more students complete programs and enter the workforce, employers benefit from a pipeline of skilled workers who are trained to meet industry needs. Communities benefit from increased earning potential and stronger local economies.
Looking ahead
Continuing with the Unlocking Opportunity initiative, Greenville Tech will expand access, improve completion rates and strengthen the connection between education and economic mobility. The work is ongoing, but the ultimate aim is to not only empower students and graduates, but also to reshape communities.
