The Upcountry History Museum will welcome “Nutcracker: The Exhibition” beginning Nov. 19.
The exhibit allows visitors to explore artistic re-imaginings of the German writer E.T.A. Hoffman’s tale from the 1820s to the present. Since its introduction to the world in 1816, the story has been told in a variety of ways, including Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet.
The “Nutcracker” exhibit will feature original costumes from Walt Disney’s 2018 live-action film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.”
The collection allows visitors to discover Tchaikovsky’s musical sequence in the ballet’s “Nutcracker Suite” and its connection to Disney’s 1940’s animated film, “Fantasia.” It also showcases props, ballet costumes, original illustrations and drawings from partnerships with:
- Walt Disney Archives
- The Walt Disney Family Museum
- The Charles M. Schulz Museum
- Children’s author/illustrator James Ransome
- Carolina Ballet Theatre
“Nutcracker” will be on display through Feb. 19. The Upcountry History Museum is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesdays-Saturdays and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Sundays.
