South Carolina Children’s Theatre has named Katie O’Kelly as its managing director.
O’Kelly, who will assume the role in September, will co-lead the organization with SCCT’s artistic director Matt Giles.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the team at SCCT as its new managing director,” O’Kelly said. “I am passionate about the mission of the theater and look forward to building upon SCCT’s 35-year legacy and creating more opportunities for young people and their families to engage with the theater.”
O’Kelly has worked nationally and internationally as a production manager, producer and stage manager for companies such as Seattle Repertory Theatre, Spoleto Festival USA, CalArts Center for New Performance, REDCAT, Triad Stage, Charleston Stage Company and Wuzhen Theatre Festival in Wuzhen, China.
O’Kelly also served as producing associate for the eight-time Tony Award-winning musical “Hadestown,” through its pre-Broadway runs in Canada and London, and in its current run on Broadway. She was director of operations and production at Triad Stage in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she managed the business side of the organization and its $2.2 million operating budget.
O’Kelly worked as an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an adjunct professor of theater at Greensboro College. Throughout her teaching career, she has taught stage and production management courses. She also served as producing associate for the Tony Award-winning producer, Dale Franzen.
O’Kelly is a graduate of Wofford College and the California Institute of the Arts.
