Previous contestants from Fox’s “MasterChef” reality competition cooking show will make a stop in Greenville Sept. 27 at the Peace Center.
While the cast members may vary at each “MasterChef All-Stars Live” stop, season nine winner Gerron Hurt will participate in the Upstate show.
The Louisville, Kentucky, native started cooking when he was 5 years old and says he has considered himself a chef for six or seven years, including his time on “MasterChef.”
During his season, which aired in 2018, Hurt was mentored by judge Joe Bastianich.
“It was great to get an Italian perspective on food,” Hurt said. “My cooking style is very Southern, so what I learned throughout my experience is to stay true to your roots and where you come from as a chef, while also doing your best to elevate those dishes to restaurant quality.”
After winning his season, Hurt opened a restaurant in Dubuque, Iowa. He travels to make guest appearances, speaks at colleges and universities, and does private chef events. Outside of the culinary world, he serves as an assistant principal at a high school near Nashville, Tennessee.
Hurt and another MasterChef contestant will participate in head-to-head battles and challenges as they cook onstage.
During the evening, some of the audience will be picked to serve as sous chefs for the challenges. Attendees will also learn cooking techniques from some of the reality show’s stars.
