Metropolitan Arts Council announced 14 artists were chosen as winners in its Flat Out Under Pressure artmaking event June 10.
Kicking off June 9, 107 local visual artists submitted works created during the 24-hour event for an opportunity to have their submissions featured on one of eight recycling bins on Main Street in downtown Greenville, as well as a chance to win between $300 and $1,000 in cash prizes.
The eight artists whose art will be featured on the recycling receptacles in 2024 are:
- Meredith Skinner – First place, also won a one-week trip for two to stay in Villa Sant’ Andrea in Italy
- Desiree Smith – Second place
- Keith Grace – Third place
- Marty Epp-Carter – Fourth place
- Diane Kilgore Condon – Fifth place
- David Gerhard – Sixth place
- Jeffery Byrd – Seventh place
- Ann Ricker – Eighth place
“What a great event Flat Out Under Pressure 2023 was,” said MAC Executive Director Alan Ethridge. “Our juror, Karen Oremus of Winthrop University, certainly had a daunting task in selecting only eight artists whose work will be on the recycling bins along Main Street in early 2024. This event is one of MAC’s signature programs, and we are greatly appreciative of Jan Wesley, MAC Board member, who has been involved in the event since its inception in 2011.”
Six participating artists were also chosen to win the event’s Exhibition Committee Award and each person received a check for $300. The recipients include:
- Jessica Fields
- Shari Grace
- Shelley Keim
- Lisa Shimko
- Hayden Oliver Traynham
- Suzanne Woolf
