Pride Link, Amaryllis Counseling and 864Pride announced June 1 they have obtained a 6,000-square-foot space for the Queer Wellness Center in Greenville, which is expected to open in fall 2021.
“The Center is a combination of a traditional community center with social activities, groups, resources and different programs and a wellness clinic with medical and mental health services, basic need items like food and clothing and access to other social service resources, all in one place,” said Pride Link founder and lead community builder Ethan Johnstone. “This space is dedicated to serve LGBTQ+ people because often in this area, LGBTQ+ people still face barriers or outright discrimination in public spaces and especially so in health care and social service spaces.”
Once open, the Queer Wellness Center will also offer legal name and gender change assistance and feature a lounge space with games, books and refreshments as well as a computer lab for job searches and studying.
The partner organizations will announce the location, hours of operation and other details as the opening nears, said Johnstone.
