Bon Secours St. Francis held a blessing ceremony May 26 to debut its new Mobile Medical Unit, which is equipped with two exam rooms and staffed by a trained care team.
The 38-foot customized RV will offer patients ages two and older preventive care such as diabetes and heart disease screenings as well as lab work, sports physicals and routine evaluation and treatment for respiratory infections, earaches and pink eye.
“This new mobile unit complements the already high-quality care provided at our brick and mortar facilities,” said Bon Secours St. Francis market president Matt Caldwell. “It allows us to expand access by taking the same great care you’d receive at one of our Primary Care practices and putting it right at your doorstep.”
The Mobile Medical Unit will also give patients onsite access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
In addition, the health care provider on board will have access to patients’ electronic medical records, which may allow the patient to receive personalized care based on their specific health needs. The results of their visit will also become part of that record, which can be viewed online through MyChart. Patients who don’t have an account will receive help registering during their visit.
The Mobile Medical Unit will accept most insurance plans and HMOs, Medicaid and offer a sliding fee scale for those who qualify. Walk-ins are welcome, but patients may also schedule same-day appointments by calling 864-603-6099.
