Aviation fans and history buffs will get a chance to see World War II planes up close as Warbird Adventures Aviation Event comes to Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Oct. 29-30.
The airport will host this free event at the Community Corridor and will be open for others to bring historic or unique planes to show off as well.
Warbird Adventures, which recently relocated from Florida to the town of Ninety Six in Greenwood County, will have planes on display like the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, two T-6 Texans and the PBY-5 Catalina Watercraft Patrol Bomber. The organization will also give attendees a chance to go for a ride or even fly one of the planes for a fee.

Photo by Warbird Adventures“Any time we are able to highlight the opportunities that aviation has for our youth by bringing historic planes, tours or educating people about the airport and our Community Corridor, we are excited to do so,” said James Stephens, airport director for GMU.
The Civil Air Patrol will have activities on hand during the event, and the Military History Center of the Carolinas will bring historic vehicles to look at and ride.
The purpose of the event, according to the airport, is to “inspire our community to fall in love with aviation.”
