Here’s a recap of the June 25 meeting of Simpsonville City Council.
Advanced: Plans to purchase and place pump track in Alder Park
Council advanced a measure to purchase a pump track for $65,000 from Flying Rabbit in Greenville.
If approved, the track would be placed in Alder Park and divided into two separate tracks, one for advanced cyclists, skateboarders or skaters and the other for beginners.
The project would be covered by the city’s hospitality and accommodations tax funds.
This item will go before the City Council for approval July 9.
Advanced: Amended stormwater development standards
Council advanced a measure that would amend its stormwater development standards in Greenville County’s Stormwater Management Design Manual.
The amended standards would require applicants seeking the city’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System permit to show that their planned stormwater systems accommodate a 100-year storm. The present guidelines require that stormwater systems accommodate a 25-year storm.
This item will go before the City Council for initial approval July 9.
Advanced: Franchise agreement with fiber internet providers
Council advanced an ordinance that would create a franchise agreement with fiber internet providers seeking to do business in the area.
If passed, the agreement would set standards of what the fiber internet providers are required to do regarding putting any impacted property back into its previous state. It would also govern how they dig in the right of ways, said City Administrator Dianna Gracely.
This item will go before the City Council for initial approval July 9.
Failed: Proposal to reduce Simpsonville municipal election filing fees
Council rejected a proposal to reduce the city’s municipal election filing fees from 5% of a council member or the mayor’s salary to 2%.
The filing fees will remain $300 per person running for City Council and $480 for individuals vying for mayor.
