Here’s a recap of Greer City Council’s March 25 meeting.
Approved: Website, social media terms of use policy
Council voted 6-1 to adopt a resolution establishing a terms of use policy for the city’s website, social media and other public communications in preparation for the city’s switch from a .org to a .gov website in the coming weeks.
Communications Manager Michelle Willis explained the city has not had a clearly defined policy in place governing its website and social media messaging and that the switch to a new website provided an excellent opportunity to put such a policy in place.
“Right now, it’s kind of the wild, wild west” in terms of having any guardrails for content, Willis said.
City administrator Andy Merriman said given the rapidly evolving nature of digital communication, particularly social media, the policy was designed to be fluid and easily adaptable to changes going forward.
Councilman Jay Arrowood was the lone dissenting vote against adopting the policy and expressed reservations about putting city personnel in the position of having to determine what would be objectionable content.
Approved: Pavement preservation funding

Council unanimously approved funding requests for two types of pavement preservation project costing a total of $380,747 to extend the life of roads in 12 subdivisions within the city.
The first project involves application of Reclamite rejuvenator to 3 miles of roads by Ohio-based Pavement Technology Inc. in six subdivisions for a total cost of $52,026. The second project involves applying HA5 surface sealer to 4.6 miles of roads by Florida-based Holbrook Asphalt in six subdivisions for a total cost of $328,721.
The treatments are expected to extend the life of road pavement by several years, and funding for the projects will come from the city’s road paving fund.
