Bon Secours St. Francis Health System awarded a $50,000 mission grant to Rebuild Upstate, a nonprofit focused on preserving affordable housing.
The grant will be used to fund local home repair projects for low-income senior citizens.
Sean Dogan, community health director at Bon Secours St. Francis, said the goal is to help more of the local senior population “age in place” or stay in their homes as they get older.
“This allows them to keep their independence and stay connected to their community, both of which can be big contributors to maintaining our health as we age,” Dogan said. “Ensuring they have houses that are well maintained is a crucial step in making that happen, so we’re excited to be able to support Rebuild Upstate in this endeavor.”
To identify the top health concerns in Greenville County, Bon Secours conducted a survey in 2022 called the Community Health Needs Assessment. Affordable housing was identified as one of the top issues.
The grant for Rebuild Upstate was provided through Bon Secours’ designated funds used to address the county’s health issues and to support the health system’s mission.
“We recognize that this investment will greatly improve the quality of life for many and enable them to enjoy their homes and community without fear of injury due to unsafe conditions in their homes,” said Jake Beaty, CEO of Rebuild Upstate.
