Greenville Center for Creative Arts (GCCA) and City of Women Greenville announced Nov. 1 they have teamed up to curate an exhibit focusing on women who have made a significant impact in the community.
Starting Nov. 1 through Jan. 6, 2022, Upstate artists may submit original art pieces for an exhibition kicking off on March 4. The submissions will need to focus on historical and contemporary women have made an impact in areas such as:
- Health care and well-being
- Education
- Economic opportunity
- Science and technology
- Civic engagement
- Arts and culture
“There is great power in sharing the untold and forgotten stories of the women who helped to build Greenville,” said Elizabeth Davis, president of Furman University, a partner institution of City of Women. “It deepens our collective understanding of history, brings to light many unknown contributions, and builds a more inclusive future for all.”
All artists interested in submitting work must be at least 18 years old and live in the Upstate. All approved entries will be featured in a virtual gallery on GCCA’s website and a juried exhibition on March 4, 2022, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The exhibition will feature work in all traditional and non-traditional 2-D and 3-D media, including:
- Painting
- Drawing
- Printmaking
- Photography
- Fiber arts
- Mixed media
- Sculpture
All submitted artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. Film, video, computer art, reproductions, crafts or jewelry submissions will not be accepted unless these items are used as part of a mixed media artwork or collage.
In addition, artists may not submit installation or performance art.
The pieces will be judged by Jonell Logan, creative director of the McColl Center for Art + Innovation in Charlotte, and her selections will be displayed in GCCA’s Community Gallery at 101 Abney St. in Greenville through April 27 in an exhibition sponsored by Wyche P.A.
Logan’s selected items will also be eligible for $2,000 in prizes.
