Jaycee Dugard, an author, kidnapping and abuse survivor, and advocate, will be the featured speaker at the Julie Valentine Center Journey of Hope and Healing virtual fundraiser at noon Feb. 12.
Dugard was kidnapped by two strangers from a Lake Tahoe bus stop in 1991 and reunited with her family in 2009 after surviving 18 years of abuse. She has gone on to write two New York Times bestsellers, “A Stolen Life: A Memoir” in 2011 and “Freedom: My Book of Firsts” in 2016. She also founded The JAYC Foundation with her family, which works to assist families and individuals that have experienced a severe challenge, conflict or crisis through a major life disruption.
“I can’t think of a more appropriate time for our community to hear her message of resiliency, hope, survival and freedom than now,” said Julie Valentine Center CEO Shauna Galloway-Williams. “This year’s event is more important than ever as we continue to face budget cuts and the challenges of doing business during a pandemic. We are forever grateful for the support of our community.”
Proceeds raised from the event will help fund the Greenville nonprofit’s programs to promote increased awareness, prevention, support and treatment to survivors of child abuse and sexual assault.
