“Mementos of Life Beyond Death” will open Dec. 3 at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts (GCCA) at 101 Abney St. in Greenville.
The exhibition, which will run through Jan. 26, will feature works by artists Jessica Burke and Jody Servon, and author Lorene Delany-Ullman. The exhibit will navigate the interconnections between identity and death and explore the relationships each person makes along life’s journey.
Servon and Delany-Ullman’s “Saved: Objects of the Dead” series captures the depth of the human experience through photographic documentation and prose poetry.
Joining the exhibit are Burke’s “Dressed Up in Bones & Sugar City” drawings, which consist of posed still-life compositions featuring figures that are replaced with skeletal features.
GCCA will host several events in relation to the exhibition, including:
- Dec. 3, 6-9 p.m. – Reception
- Jan. 6, 7-8 p.m. – The Prose Poem: Objects in Memoriam, a writing and photography virtual workshop0 with Servon and Delaney-Ullman
- Jan. 11, 6-7 p.m. – Virtual ARTalk panel discussion
- Jan. 20, 7-8 p.m. – Talking to Grief: Finding healing through poetry community poetry reading with Kimberly J. Simms and Shay Black of Wits End Poetry
