Bon Secours St. Francis Health System will soon launch its second mobile mammography unit to deliver imaging technology to women across Upstate South Carolina.
The new unit will operate on the road five to six days a week to offer 3D tomosynthesis technology for patients in Greenville, Anderson, Pickens and Oconee counties.
“This will allow us to travel further and to more destinations to spread awareness that early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer – a fight that 1 in 8 women will face in their lifetime,” said Amanda Yanchus, lead mammography technologist at the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health.
Mammograms play an important role in early detection and diagnosis of breast-related concerns. The health system’s original mammography coach began operating in 2012.
Alicia Landreth, mammography technologist and mobile mammography coordinator at Bon Secours, said the mobile units provide a non-hospital environment that makes many ladies feel more comfortable coming in to do a test.
“Bringing the mobile coach to places outside Greenville makes such a difference for the ladies living and working in these communities,” Landreth said. “Many of them work long days and would not take the time off work to go have their screening done if we did not bring these services right to their door.”
Screenings take 15 minutes on average on the mobile mammography coach and are usually covered by most insurance carriers. A formal doctor’s order is not required to schedule a mammogram. To set up an appointment, call 864-675-4875 or visit bonsecours.com.
