Organizers of the TD Bank Reedy River Run canceled the 43rd running of the downtown Greenville event hosted by the Greenville Track Club. They cited safety concerns related to large crowds during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event, originally scheduled for April 18, was moved to Sept. 5 in March.
“We are extremely disappointed that we will not be able to conduct the TD Bank Reedy River Run this year due to concerns and restrictions related to the uncertainty presented by COVID-19,” race director Mike Caldwell said in a prepared statement. “We explored all options to hopefully provide a safe event utilizing physical distancing protocols, staggered starting processes, etc. However, with anticipated size limitations on group gatherings and other concerns, we must cancel the event for this year. The safety of our participants, volunteers and sponsors is our primary concern.”
