Mayberry Park has officially reopened in Greenville’s Unity Park.
City leaders, community members and baseball fans gathered to celebrate the new Little League baseball field on Aug. 28. It is located near Unity Park’s Auro Bridge and the nearly completed The Thomas and Vivian A. Wong Honor Tower.
Mayberry Park honors the legacy of the city’s only park for local Black children during the time of segregation. The new ballfield features a 220-foot field, grandstand bleachers, batting cages, a scoreboard, a press box, home and visitor dugouts, concession stands, and more.

The $3.2 million baseball field was funded through a public-private partnership between the city of Greenville and private donors. Greenville Drive owner Craig Brown and his wife, Vicki, served as the lead donors for the new field.
At the ballfield’s grand reopening, a ceremonial first pitch was made by former Sterling High baseball players and Craig Brown’s grandchildren. Greenville Mayor Knox White, Greenville City Councilmember Lillian Brock-Flemming and Craig Brown shared remarks at the celebration along with Sterling High alumnus John Whiteside.
Mayberry Park will be open for public access through the city’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department’s reservation process. City recreational baseball programs and Greenville Little League will also play at the new ballfield.
