The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club received the 2020 USL League One title after its final match was canceled when their opponent, Union Omaha, had multiple positive COVID-19 tests within the team.
Since the game could not happen, the Triumph received the title because they had the highest average points per matches played within the league. The team also had 11 wins, two draws and three losses in the 16-game season.
“You think about the work we put in all year long, and it culminates in us getting the chance to lift a cup and be recognized for the efforts,” said Greenville Triumph head coach John Harkes. “It’s a fantastic feeling, and I’m so proud of these players. They’ve worked so hard this year. Their discipline, attention to detail on and off the field. They deserve every part of this.”
The soccer club previously made it to the USL League One Final in their inaugural 2019 season but missed out on a championship with a road loss to North Texas.
