Fall is a beautiful time of year to get cozy with your significant other – or meet someone new – and see some of the best scenery the state and surrounding areas have to offer. We’ve come up with the best fall dates that are both romantic and Instagram-worthy, because really, you’ve got to share the love.

Wander Through Stumphouse Tunnel

Stumphouse Tunnel Rd, Walhalla

Construction on the Stumphouse Tunnel in Walhalla started pre-Civil War in 1852 and was never completed. Stroll hand in hand through the tunnel, listening to the persistent drip of the water, and cozy up in the constant 50 degree temperature. If you go when the leaves are changing, the photos can be quite stunning. For an extra treat, stop at the nearby Issaqueena Falls, which cascade over a 200-foot drop.

Ghost Hunt at Poinsett Bridge

580 Callahan Mountain Rd, Landrum

Built in 1820, the Poinsett Bridge is the oldest in South Carolina and so gorgeous. It’s Gothic arch is ideal for beautiful, romantic photos. A small creek flows under the bridge and in the fall, yellows, reds, and oranges frame the shot. Poinsett Bridge is also rumored to be haunted – good luck trying to get paranormal activity on camera.

Pick Pumpkins at Grandad’s Apples ‘N Such

2951 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, NC

What’s a fall date without a pumpkin patch? Bright pumpkins catch the eye of anyone scrolling through Insta and are the perfect opportunity to grab a cute shot of a day out with your significant other. Bonus points if you’re holding an apple cider donut. Church pumpkin patches such as Holy Cross, Abiding Peace, and St. Giles all have pumpkin patches that are open through Halloween. Grandad’s Apples ‘N Such in Hendersonville also has a big pumpkin patch.

Take a Sunset Boat Tour at Jocassee Gorge

Devils Fork State Park, Salem

The Jocassee Gorge was named by National Geographic as one of the “50 of the World’s Last Great Places” and it’s not hard to see why: the crystal clear water surrounded by lush mountains are indeed a sight to behold. Take a date there for a sunset boat cruise during the fall and be greeted by near supernatural colors reflecting off the pristine lake. Can’t get much more Insta-worthy than that. The three-hour sunset boat tour is $45/person with Jocassee Lake Tours.

Ride in a Hot Air Balloon

Historic Hopkins Farm, 3717 Fork Shoals Rd, Simpsonville

Romance flies high at a hot air balloon festival. The Victory Hot Air Balloon Festival happens in Greenville November 1 and 2 at Historic Hopkins Farm in Simpsonville. Book a spot to take your date in a hot air balloon and be sure to have that camera ready.

Take a Hike at Table Rock State Park & Raven Cliff Falls

Table Rock, 158 E. Ellison Lane, Pickens / Raven Cliff Falls, 8155 Geer HIghway, Cleveland

Hiking in the fall as a date idea is fun, especially if the couple has similar interests of climbing over rocks, walking through the woods, and eating picnics on scenic overlooks. The Upstate has hundreds of trails to choose from but during the fall, the hike to Raven Cliff Falls in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness and to the top of Table Rock are both Insta-worthy, especially once peak leaf season hits.

Say a Little Prayer at Pretty Place

100 YMCA Camp Road, Cleveland

Pretty Place, which sits overlooking the mountains on the South Carolina/North Carolina border, is a popular place for weddings and it’s not hard to see why. It’s peaceful, stunning, and the perfect destination for some quiet time together. When peak leaf peeping season hits, Pretty Place is the ideal location to be to get an enviable Insta photo. Check the website before you go to make sure it’s not closed for a private event.

Get Down on Denver Downs Farm

1515 Denver Road, Anderson

Farms aren’t just for kids to play and hold cute baby animals. Denver Downs Farm in Anderson is great for a date – with opportunities for some beautiful photos – because it brings out the kid in everyone. Adults can do almost all of the farm activities like the jumping pillow, ropes course, swinging from the rafters into hay bales, human foosball, and the massive corn maze.

Catch the Bear

Shadow of the Bear. PHoto by Stacy Redmon.

Shadow of the Bear, 64 Cashiers Road, Highlands, NC
Up in Cashiers, NC, less than 90 minutes from Greenville, is a phenomenon that happens only twice a year – one of them being in the fall – for two weeks. At 5:30 pm on a clear day, a shadow of a bear emerges in the valley next to Whiteside Mountain. A photo of you and your partner high above the mountain with the shadow of the bear in the background is Insta-gold.

Enjoy Them Apples At Justus Orchards

187 Garren Road, Hendersonville, NC

Apple season lasts only a few months but hitting up an apple orchard is a great way to spend time together. With the mountains in the background, a good apple photo is usually an instant Insta hit. There are several apple orchards within an hour of Greenville but one of my favorites is Justus Orchards for their delicious apples, cider donuts, and unbeatable views.
