Did you know that Jan. 28 is Global Community Engagement Day?
A nonprofit in Australia created the day in 2018 to encourage individuals to become more involved with important issues in their community. As a member of the Greenville Transit Authority board of directors, I’d like to invite Greenville County residents to celebrate Global Community Engagement Day by becoming more involved in conversations about transit.
Here are some tips for those interested in transportation and mobility in our community:
- Attend Greenville Transit Authority board meetings: The board holds monthly meetings to hear from Greenlink staff about service metrics and upcoming events and discuss possible service changes that would impact Greenlink riders. The meetings are currently being held online due to COVID-19. All meetings are open to the public.
- Register for a passenger orientation: New to transit? Attend a personalized orientation with Greenlink staff in a relaxed, controlled environment. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to navigate the system and have all of your questions answered. Registration is required.
- Apply for the Citizens Transit Academy: Interested in a behind-the-scenes look at Greenlink? Offered every January, the Citizens Transit Academy features six sessions on topics like day-to-day operations and logistics, finances, route planning, and more. Applications are typically accepted in October.
- Ride the bus: The best way to become more involved in conversations about transit is to use Greenlink’s services. Visit RideGreenlink.com for information about Greenlink’s routes, fares, schedules, and more.
