On Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, Deborah “Debi” Hayes, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at her home in Greer after a three-and-a-half-year battle with ovarian cancer at the age of 65.
Hayes was born April 5, 1955 in Paramus, New Jersey, to Carl Edward Landes and Shirley Russell Landes. She graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1973 and studied at Presbyterian College before earning her business management degree from Furman University in 1978. On Aug. 19, 1978, she married Leslie Robert Hayes at Furman University. The couple spent time in Casper, Wyoming, before moving back to Greenville. She had two children, Landon and Regan. Hayes worked at both Modern Electric and Harper Brothers before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She attended St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Greenville.
Hayes had a passion for running, animals, and her grandchildren. She ran mainly for pleasure but completed a marathon and numerous other races. She had four golden retrievers over the course of her life, as well as numerous other animals. She loved watching her grandchildren and visiting them often.
She is preceded in death by her father, Carl Landes. She is survived by her husband, Les; their two children, Landon Hayes (Stacey) of El Paso, Texas, and Regan Sinkuler (Zach) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; her five grandchildren, Lillian Hayes, Calvin Sinkuler, Lucille Hayes, Harriet Sinkuler and Quinn Sinkuler; her mother, Shirley Landes; and her sister, Donna Landes. A private memorial was held by the family members. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Foothills Golden Retriever Rescue.
