The authentic Mexican food restaurant Viva Villa Mexican Grill will soon be opening a new location in Greenville’s West End.
A banner announcing the opening was draped over the location’s entrance at 929 S. Main St, in the spot previously occupied by Compadres Mex Mex Grill.
Viva Villa has two other locations, one in Greenville at 3717 E. North St. and one in Mauldin at 203 N. Main St. The restaurant specializes in authentic-style Mexican fare, including familiar items like tacos, burritos and fajitas, as well as more eclectic options like chuletas de puerco (Mexican-style pork chops), codorniz frita (fried cornish hen) and menudo de res (traditional Mexican beef stomach soup).
Compadre’s closed down operations at the West End spot after 13 years. Its second location at 2541 North Pleasantburg Drive, which has been open a decade, will remain in operation.
The Ramirez family, which owns Compadres, made the announcement of the closure via social media.
“We’ve enjoyed sharing our family’s food and traditions with all of you and making friends of our neighbors downtown and all over the Upstate,” the family wrote. “We must now end this chapter of our lives here in the West End and we hope you’ll still come visit us at our second location on North Pleasantburg Drive. We thank you all for making our years here so memorable.”
Viva Villa will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The owners have yet to announce when the restaurant will formally open its doors.
