CPT Medical, a surgical pack and kit manufacturer in Greenville, will release tens of thousands of COVID-19 test kits in the next week. The kits currently in production will be sent to hospitals, nursing homes and doctors’ offices.
In the next three weeks, CPT Medical expects to release 95,000 test kits, the company said in a release. Fifty-four thousand will be ready next week.
The tests, which CPT Medical said were developed under CDC guidelines and in an FDA-registered location, will be available both in bulk and individual kits for laboratories. They will be able to test for COVID-19 and serve as respiratory pathogen profile kits.
“Helping to provide a critical piece in containing the spread of COVID-19 is something we are very proud of,” said Connie Liesman, CEO of CPT Medical.
“The shortage in testing is something that we are on a mission to impact positively in South Carolina and the U.S. at large. For over 15 years we have manufactured surgical packs and kits for hospitals and surgery centers, and our team is practiced in efficiently producing the highest quality tests for current needs,” Liesman added.
The company also said it was developing home testing kits that doctors could order for their patients. These would help stem the spread of the new coronavirus from patient to health care worker. When those tests are available, they will only be available to physicians to send to patients, not for the general public.
