The Barbara Stone Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting programs and initiatives for individuals with disabilities, recently awarded $25,500 in grants to four Upstate nonprofits.
The grant recipients are:
- Greenville Area Parkinson Society, $5,000
- SC School for the Deaf and Blind Foundation, $5,000
- The YMCA of Greenville, $12,500
- Applied Theatre Center, $3,000
Both the Greenville Area Parkinson Society and the Applied Theatre Center will use their grants to support their virtual programming, while the YMCA of Greenville will use their funds for their RECESS program, which gives participants the opportunity to learn about nutrition, fitness, social responsibility, community outreach and independent living skills.
Rounding out the four recipients, the SC School for the Deaf and Blind Foundation will use their grant for their Freedom to Play project, which will repurpose an old tennis court on the school’s Spartanburg property to give students with mobility challenges a safe place to ride bicycles, run, walk and play.
