The state Department of Transportation will convert the intersection of North Mechanic and Queen streets in Pendleton from a signalized to an all-way stop intersection starting Sept. 1.
New stop signs will be installed and the signals will be changed to an all-red pattern, meaning drivers will be required to come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection.
SCDOT will monitor the new traffic pattern for 90 days to assess the change’s operational effectiveness. If the review shows the change is functioning as designed, the department will remove the signals.
Drivers in the area can comment on the change by calling 864-889-8002.
