Local food rescue organization Loaves & Fishes is hosting their Hungry to Help food and funds drive until May 31 to collect nonperishable food items and funds to support their partner agencies.
“As the economic impact of COVID-19 continues to be felt in Greenville County, more families are seeking assistance than ever before,” said Loaves & Fishes executive director Tessa May. “Record unemployment has caused even middle-class families who have never needed food assistance previously to request it. Thankfully, many of those less financially impacted are looking for ways to assist their neighbors in need.”
Only 11 of Loaves & Fishes’ 101 partner agencies have been forced to suspend their service due to health concerns for their older volunteers or the children they serve, said May. “Loaves & Fishes continues to provide fresh food seven days a week to agencies, thanks to generous food donation partners and supporters,” she said. “The highest need at this time is for shelf-stable nonperishable items and the funds needed to deliver them.”
The organization hopes to attract 200 donors to the Hungry to Help food and funds drive to help fill the agency’s shelves. Donations can be made by purchasing food items online and shipping them directly to Loaves & Fishes, choosing to support the organization through Amazon Smile, calling ahead to arrange a curbside food drop-off at the Loaves & Fishes’ office located at 25 Woods Lake Drive, Suite 810 in Greenville, or donating directly through PayPal.
