Masks are required in all public meeting rooms and common areas for all City of Greenville employees and guests starting Aug. 10, according to a city announcement.
The requirement is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control that anyone — whether vaccinated or not — wear masks while in public, indoor settings.

Employees of the city can unmask in enclosed personal offices but will be required to mask when riding with other employees and guests in city vehicles. The mask requirement also applies to employees and parents who work in or have children attending any one of the city’s after-school programs, according to the city’s guidelines, but the requirement does not apply to the children, themselves. That decision the city is leaving to parents and guardians.
“The City of Greenville acknowledges many people are weary of COVID-19 and its protocols. However, wearing a mask, washing hands, social distancing and staying at home when sick are proven to be effective in slowing the spread of COVID-19,” city spokesperson Beth Brotherton said.
