Places: Hampton-Pinckney Historic District dates back to antebellum period
The Hampton-Pinckney Neighborhood is a significant area of Greenville’s history, directly associated with Vardry McBee the “Father of Greenville”. The first house in the area was constructed by Vardry’s son, Pinckney McBee.
Places: The Furman area – Cherrydale Point to Roe Ford Road – just five miles from ‘everywhere’
Fun fact: Furman student, Frank Selvy, scored 100 points in a college basketball game versus Newberry College on February 13, 1954 – he is still the only NCAA Division I player to do so, a record that he has held for over 65 years.
