Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Greenville celebrated the completion of a major expansion doubling its capacity with a ribbon cutting ceremony Sept. 15.
The facility at 3372 Laurens Road has expanded from 40 to 80 beds and serves patients recovering from life-changing medical events.
“As Greenville continues to grow, the need for our level of care grows, too,” said Joshua Trout, hospital CEO, in a statement about the expansion. “Doubling our capacity means more people who have suffered a stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, amputation or hip fracture will have access to the advanced rehabilitation care they need.”
The new 40-bed unit is made up of private rooms and adds more than 26,000 square feet to the facility. The addition also includes four day rooms, a nurses’ station, and a new family courtyard with walking paths and benches.
The project also involved expanding the hospital’s therapy gym to accommodate more patients and adding a therapy pavilion, sunshades and walking paths to the therapy courtyard.
According to Encompass Health Greenville, the expansion is also expected to create 90 new jobs. The hospital opened in 2021 and provides intensive inpatient rehabilitation therapy for patients recovering from a life-changing illness or injury.
