Greenville County Schools and The Barbara Stone Foundation’s resource fair to help students with disabilities plan for life after high school was rescheduled to March 26 due to recent winter weather.
“The Road to Possibilities – An Opportunity Fair” will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the University Center at 225 S. Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville. The event, previously scheduled for Feb. 5, will be free and open to the public.
Exhibitors at the fair will provide information on community resources and services to students and their families. These resources will include post-secondary education and training, employment opportunities, independent living, financial literacy, recreation and leisure activities, and legal planning.
“When students with disabilities graduate from high school and enter adulthood, the daily supports that they have known and had for their entire educational journey end,” said Carlene Zierfuss, transition coordinator at Greenville County Schools. “We hope to make that journey and transition seamless, so our students have more opportunities and support after they leave Greenville County Schools.”
Lara Ceisel, executive director of Barbara Stone Foundation, said the organization is thrilled to partner with Greenville County Schools to host the second resource fair. The Barbara Stone Foundation is a Greenville-based nonprofit that provides support programs and initiatives for individuals with disabilities.
“Navigating resources and options after high school can be hard for many, and we hope to make new connections and provide options that make their journey a little easier,” Ceisel said.
The resource fair will also include food and live entertainment. To register for the event, visit greenville.k12.sc.us/Departments/main.asp?titleid=acad_spedts.
