Mauldin City Council will ask voters to approve a penny sales tax within Mauldin city limits.
The 5-1 vote came during a special called meeting Aug. 3. Jason Kraeling (Seat 3) was the lone vote against the ordinance authorizing a referendum.
If the referendum is passed by voters during the Nov. 3 election, the tax would go into effect for eight years from 2027 to 2035. It would fund $19.6 million in capital revenue projects, including the construction, repair and improvement of city-owned roadways and intersections. It would also pay for the design, engineering and construction of Fire Station 5.
The ordinance would also provide a $4.9 million tax credit for property owners within city limits.
It will be submitted to the Greenville County Voter Registration and Election Board by Aug. 17 for inclusion on the Nov. 3 ballot.
