The G. Ross Anderson Jr. Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Anderson has been listed for disposition by the federal General Services Administration, the agency announced Sept. 10.
The federal building is located at 315 S. McDuffie St. in downtown Anderson and is listed on the National register of Historic Places. It is also home to a New Deal mural by Arthur Sinclair Covey entitled “Corn, Cotton and Tobacco Culture” and painted in 1940.
According to GSA, disposition is part of a larger strategy to evaluate underutilized assets and shrink the federal footprint. Listing the Anderson federal building for disposition is the first step in a process, under which the property could be transferred, exchanged, or sold to a federal, state, local entity or member of the public.
Removing the building from the inventory of federal properties will eliminate $2.2 million in delinquent and annual maintenance costs, according to GSA.
