The South Carolina Technical Education Association recognized three Greenville Technical College employees as Educators of the Year.
The honorees were Professor Jan Bishop, Dean Thomas Takayama and staff member Gina Marie Thomas.
Bishop, who was recognized in the faculty category, has served as an English professor since 2004. She also served as the head of the transitional studies department, where she focused on the needs of students who are still preparing for college-level work. She also worked to drive innovative curriculum, faculty development, student recognition, and advising and acceleration initiatives.
Joining Bishop as an honoree is Takayama, GTC’s dean for the School of Arts and Sciences since 2019. He leads Greenville Technical College’s largest academic school. In nearly two decades in higher education, he has served in both educator and administrator roles at some of the country’s leading community colleges. He was recognized in the administrator category.
Rounding out the three is staff member Gina Marie Thomas, who has worked for the college for 36 years and serves as coordinator responsible for the Perkins Grant and programmatic accreditations.
