The Meyer Center for Special Children cut the ribbon on its first inclusive 4K classroom on Sept. 23.
The new classroom provides space for typically developing four-year-olds to learn alongside children with disabilities at the special education and therapy school at 1132 Rutherford Road in Greenville. The Meyer Center officially launched its new 4K Inclusion Program in August.
“Every parent wants their child to be prepared for kindergarten. We want that too. But preparation for life is bigger than letters and numbers,” said Executive Director Meta Hendricks. “Children also need to learn how to work with others, appreciate differences, show kindness, and recognize the strengths in people around them. Inclusion gives children the opportunity to begin learning those lessons at four years old.”
The Meyer Center received a $200,000 grant from Pacolet Milliken LLC to start the new program for the 2026-27 school year. Representatives from Pacolet Milliken joined students, families, board members, staff, donors and community partners of The Meyer Center to celebrate the ribbon cutting on Wednesday.
