According to the College Board, Greenville County students outperformed their national and state peers on the 2020 SAT test and exceeded the 2019 passage rate on Advanced Placement exams.
On the SAT test, the average score for GCS students was 1038, which is eight points higher than the national average of 1030 and 19 points higher than the state average of 1019. Within the district, Riverside, J.L. Mann, Eastside, Wade Hampton, Mauldin and Greenville high schools all scored above the state and national average.
“We commend our dedicated teachers and diligent students for their continued efforts and well-deserved accomplishments,” said Jason McCreary, GCS director of accountability and quality assurance.
In addition to outperforming their peers on the SAT, 2020 has seen 64% of GCS high school students passing their AP exams. The school district previously reported an AP exam passage rate of 61% in 2019 and 59.3% in 2018. With a 79% passage rate, Riverside High ranks first in the district, followed by Mauldin High with 75%. J.L. Mann High Academy administered the largest number of AP exams to the greatest number of students in the county. The school saw 578 students take 1,080 AP exams in 2020.
