Greenville County is a “choice” district, with 16% of the school system’s 76,000 students attending a school outside of their assigned zones. This year’s deadlines for school choice applications are approaching.
Magnet Academies: Application deadline is noon Dec. 3
The academic program of each magnet academy offers a theme or focus that is designed to give students an opportunity to explore a special interest, gift, talent or skill. GCS has 11 magnet academies that focus on the arts, math and science, languages, technology, engineering, health careers, finance and law, or global studies. Applications can be found at this link.
Change in assignment: Applications due Dec. 4
Students are assigned to schools based on the addresses of their custodial parents or guardians. Parents may request that their children attend other schools through a change in assignment. Parents may request up to three schools. Forms must be turned in to to their No. 1 choice school. Assignment change is granted based on space available and lottery results. Kindergarten and first grade registration: Dec. 3-6 at zoned school
Children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current year must enroll in public or private kindergarten unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver.
